Characteristics of Nitrifying and Denitrifying Microbes in the Bioretention Cell with Submerged Zone during a Dry Period

Microbial transformation is a vital mechanism to internally treat nitrogen (N) within bioretention cells (BRCs); nitrifying and denitrifying microorganisms are the main drivers of permanent removal. The limited research characteristics microbes in different layers during dry periods has prevented further understanding behavior cells. In this paper, high-throughput sequencing technology qPCR were used analyze microbial community abundance six functional genes soil water samples layered BRC. This study found that structure gravel layer was distinguished from other three layers. With extension period, amount species shared by all four increased, showing convergent succession microorganisms. nitrification denitrification mainly existed upper cell; addition, sand increased after rainfall peaked at about 24–48 h, which decreased became steady. Correlation analysis indicated significantly affected TOC, ammonia concentration nitrate concentration.
